Hi guys, Just received your wonderful holiday greetings and Henry's note cards. The note cards are adorable. Thank you, thank you. We think the rink is smashing and truly something the kids will remember. I could have lived without the basement remodeling details because I lived through that once and ONCE is enough! It is worth all the effort to fix it up. Our kids still tell stories of the fun they had down there playing their game called "Chuck Forman". All I know is that it involved their LARGE muscles and the walls shook! Love to all, Janis

What a sweet little daughter you have! I'm Kitty, Rachelle Marshall's mother. As a fairly new grandmother I just want to hold little Josie and make all her hurts go away. We pray that will happen soon and that steps can be taken, so Josie doesn't have to suffer so terribly in the future. May God hold your family in His arms and give you strength to fight this ordeal. Enjoyed looking at your family pics, you do a good job of posting -

I wish there were some great words of wisdom or hope to offer you, but all I can do is tell you is that everyone is praying, hoping, begging God to have mercy on your beautiful baby. Please know that you are in my thoughts constantly. I wish I were there to give you some help with the other kids, chores, anything, but for now I can only send you my love. From priscilla moreno,
Hello Jay,

Thank you for sending me a message on myspace about the DM blog. It breaks my heart to see Josie have to endure this at such a young age. I can't believe they have given her so many different drugs. So far, I've only been on IVIG and prednisone. I was doing great up until about a week ago when my legs started to hurt really bad. If it's any help, the juvenile form of DM is more likely to go into remission. I hope she never has to deal with it ever again after that. I will keep you and your beautiful family in my prayers. Take Care,
Priscilla Moreno

PS: nice job on the ironman. I was training for the marathon trials when I became ill, but I have faith that I'll finish my marathon someday...and many more.

How is Josie doing? How are you all doing? We miss seeing you all. Maybe the 9 of us can get together or just the 4 of us for dinner.
I loved seeing all of your projects and activites. It looks like the Krafts are bo-ring!! No syruping (unless pouring Aunt Jemima on frozen waffles counts), no Ironman's (or is it Ironmen) although Dan did do the Triathlon a few weeks ago when it was hotter than blazes and we complained for 4 hours, and no re-wiring of anything electrical.

Let us know when you are free.

Take Care, Guys!

I was checking on you and I see you've been through a lot the last half of the month. I'm the one who mentioned celiac disease and my daughter also had dermatomyositis. It does make me wonder, since your daughter is having so many tummy issues, if the medications she is receiving happen to have gluten in them. I don't think it would hurt to ask. The doctors could tell you if they have any other options and you may be limited, but I think it would be worth asking!!

Everyone is thinking you!!!

Hello from Kathy (Bridget and Molly's daycare lady). Megan gave me the website about Josie because I asked her where Josie had been when I saw the welcome home sign on your window. I am hoping and praying for her and you that she soon recovers from all her pain. She is so adorable and from the pics on the website you can see a little twinkle still in her eyes, so she's probably got a lot more POW in her to keep on fighting! Please let me know if I can help in any way. I live very close by and it would be my privledge, even if it's just to let the dogs out or take them for a walk or do some shopping for you, whatever. Deb, you were so kind to me a few years back when you brought my Casey home from the pet hospital which I'll not forget! Please let me know. Here's my phone number to just have. Having one more number is a good thing! 612-928-9154 or 612-275-6505. Best of luck and good ,good good thoughts to you all.

From Kathy Weiler,
I am a Concord parent(Jack grade 1) and I found my way into your website through the Concord Crier announcing the Joy for Josie event. All I can say is that I started with the intention of just taking a quick look and an hour later had read the entire blog. I was so moved by the strength of your family and of Josie. Her disease and your accounting of it left me so impacted that I went home and told my husband about it last night. He told me not to let it bother me. Unbeknownst to me after I went to sleep he spent an hour reading the whole site too. Both of us are just so deeply touched by her "adventure" as you call it. I have thought about it non-stop since yesterday. We have a little girl who is 3 1/2 so thinking of your everyday ups and downs and seeing Josie just breaks our heart. We also have an adult friend who just went through a whipple last month so I know the enormity of what she is facing. This may seem odd coming from a complete stranger but what can we do to help? Clean your house, babysit your other children, do errands/laundry, yard work, make meals, leave you alone? I am sure you have a wonderful network of family and friends but we are a family of strangers willing to do whatever you can think of to help.(we mean this very seriously) Please let us know how we can help you and also know that we are routing for your family. We plan to attend the event this weekend too. Kathy Weiler

Hello from Hutchinson! I came to your wonderful blog after reading about Josie on Joey Brunner's CaringBridge site.

What an amazing little girl you have, to undergo so much while the medical team scrambles to devise a plan.

I can imagine that, if Josie is so incredible, then so must the rest of your family be!

Imagine my surprise, as I paged through your site, to find photos of Brigid and Andy. Brigid is the younger sister of my classmate and her entire family are friends of my entire family. This world is so unbelievably small.

Please know our family will keep yours in our daily prayers.

From Amanda,
Ever since a classified came out at work for donations for your Joy for Josie event I have been hooked on your beautiful little girl. I went home that night so upset and wanting to help that my lovley husband stayed up half the night making goodies for your speical day (I am not the best baker in town) I hope it helped. Checking up on her progress if the first thing I do every morning and I can't help the feeling of wanting to burst into tears when I look at her sweet innocent face knowing what this sweet little girl has had to endure. I have a 4 year old myself and can't imagine what you are going through. Your family has shown me that with having faith in god and a lot of love a family can get through anything. I will say a lot of prayers for Josie as her big day is approaching and as everyone who has read your blog knows that Josie is a strong spunky little girl who will come through this tough surgery 100%. God bless you and your entire family and know that you are all in my prayers. Thank you for sharing Josie with all of us as she is truly an angel.

From Heidi Schellhas (and Bob Lucas and Solomon),

Dr. Adams saved our dog, Solomon's, life by extracting huge cacium oxylate stones from his bladder, first with surgery and then, again, without surgery. My husband, Bob, and I, of course, think the world of Dr. Adams and are indebted to her for her skill and attention to Solomon.

We were unaware of the health crisis in your family until Sandy mentioned the benefit being held at CPC, where we are members, also. We went to the benefit (taking my father with us) and were very moved by the number of people who love all of you and are praying for you.

About three weeks ago, Sandy mentioned the web site to me and I have been reading it for at least a couple of weeks.
Your family's strength is so inspiring, and I am praying so hard for Josie's continued progress and recovery.

Thank you for sharing your circumstances with all of us. I especially appreciate the great sense of humor. (That's my coping mechanism and I think it makes the most difficult situations tolerable.)

God Bless You and good luck with those power struggles with Josie.

Ive been trying not to disturb them and figure out my next plan of attack. I'm allergic to most antibiodics so I have to come up with some other bug killer. Maybe the exercise is bothering them if they are doing the same thing. Also they usually fight more right before their last stand.

I really don't know what to say. I came across your story while trying to find out more about JDM. My 5 year old grandson, who I have custody of, was just diagnosed with this disease 2 weeks ago.
You are certainly an inspiration to me. I have spent the last couple of nights reading Josie's story. Your family has been through so much. God bless you all. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

From Michelle Lies,
Hey Deb How have you been? I'm sure you know that Dr. Kathleen and I are working together again over at Scenic Hills Animal Hospital, but if you didnt you do now. Kathleen was telling me all about Josies condition, I had no idea it eve got as bad as it did. It crushes me... no one ever said anything to me whenever I came to visit at Southdale. I'm also really glad to hear things are looking up for her now. So if you have the chance say "hi" to everyone at the clinic when youre there. Take care and now that I have this address i'll be able to drop you a line now and again to say hi and of course keep up on Josies case. Hope every one else at your house is doing well. Take care!

Hi, I have an ice rink question for you. I recently moved from a nice big flat yard with no trees, to a yard with at least one that is going to be in the way. I was searching the web for solutions to this, and found your site. I'm assuming you use a liner for the rink. Is there any tricks to going around a tree in your rink? Thanks for any help!

I graduated from the Med/Peds residency program at the University of Minnesota, and was part of Josie's care team on three occassions - while doing Rheumatology with Dr. Vehe, while on the GI service, and, while Josie was in the PICU. I am so happy to see that she is doing better. Josie's blog is wonderful. You have been through so much - your strength is truly inspiring. Best wishes - always.

From Kat in London (UK),
Stumbled across this blog whilst googling stuff about Slap Cheek of all things! Like other people that have left messages I was drawn to reading about your daughter Josie.
My partner also suffered with Dermatomyositis as a youngster (although not quite as severely as Josie) and Juvenile Osteoporosis, quite a coincidence for a quick google search!
Now this was way before I met her (about 16 years ago or so) but I believe she was put on a drugs trial which thankfully helped her turn the corner. She's now a healthy 27 year old who has only a few minor health niggles related to her medical past. I hope that Josie is doing well now and I'll look forward to reading an up-date sometime soon.

On another subject I went on to look at your homepage and read the whole of your blog about the Ironman which was mega! I'm about to do my first Triathlon this year, and have opted for the sprint distance (thought best to do that rather than bite of more than I can chew and get put off!). Reading your account gave me that little buzz of excitement at the thought of participating in such an event, although I don't think I could ever do the distances in an Iron man, they are terrific!

Anyway I think I’ve waffled enough as a complete random! I just felt compelled to write you guys a message after visiting your site. :o)

I was surfing the net, trying to find images that match the odd rash I have developed under both arms, and came across your beautiful blog. Congratulations on your beautiful successful family. We all deal with something, but some get a heavier load than others. I commend you on your tenacity, spirit and love. Bless you family and especially your little girl, Josie. I hope she is doing well, as well as can be expected under the circumstances. My thoughts and prayers are with you. You are an inspiration to me.

From Mahaendera,
Hi, I was searching thru Google for some scar pictures and I came across to little Josie's story.

I must say your family (including Josie) are extremely strong to cope with what Josie is going thru. I almost cried when I saw her pictures. How can a child go thru such a pain? I know, this world isnt fair to all.

Could Josie have diabetes? Else it will worsen her condition.

I wish you all the best and all my good wishes are with you and Josie. Yet, you truly are an insipration for me as an Asian!

I was researching online and I came across Josie's photos. FIrst of all I wish you luck and all my best. I am just a laymen, though I spend quite an inordinate amount of time researching mineral deficiencies as a hobby, which is what lead me to her photo. Have you ever supplemented her with Selenium? There just seem to be quite a few similarities in what I read of her blog to Selenium deficiency. Just a though. Good luck and God bless.

I have looked at Josie's blog about her condition. Have you ever considered taking her to see a clinical nutritionist? If not take a look at Ulan Nutritional Systems. I work for an Advanced Clinical Doctor and he has helped many patients with problems simalar to Josie's. It hurts me to look at her early pictures.

From Jess,
Hello and greetings from Australia..

I just read ther very long blog of Josie's story when I accidently came across it. I have to say I had tears in my eyes seeing the pictures of her in the ICU bed hooked up to all those tubes.. And the story is incredible. I have never heard of the condition.

It is so fantastic that she seems to be alot better. How is she now? I can see there has been no new entries this year?

Hope all is well and Josie is running around and having a ball!

Hello, Jay -- I wonder if you've gotten the newsletter with Josie's story? I've gotten a lot of calls and emails about it. Would you like me to send you some copies? Thanks so much for sharing your family's journey.

We are working with Ann Reed at the Mayo Clinic to put together a JM family conference. It will be free and lodging is pretty cheap. It will be in July.

From Jane,
My 3 year old little sister is super sick with some unknown illness. It’s been almost 8 months of tests, doctors, scans, more tests, and they don’t know what it is. They are getting closer to figuring it out, because they narrowed it down a bit, so that’s good. It’s not as bad as what Jose has/had to go through, but I find it really amazing how strong she is, and it gives me strength to comfort Mia with. Thank you for sharing your incredible story.
